Architecture and history

The two-story stucco building was built in the 1930s as part of the aviator Horst at military airport Magdeburg-Nord and served as a pilot school. Other details name the function of an officers' mess . After the Second World War , it was converted into a public school, which opened on September 1, 1949. Initially 230 children were taught in six classes. Four of the first new teachers were employed at the school . The school was later operated as the Polytechnische Oberschule (POS) and was named POS Ernst Grube on December 14, 1974 .

After the political change in 1989 , it was converted to the Friedensweiler elementary school. The school was closed in 2002 due to declining student numbers. However, the building still served as alternative quarters for other schools that were being renovated. Most recently, the Am Elbdamm primary school used the building as an alternative accommodation , but moved out again in February 2010.

In 2016, the school building was fundamentally remodeled, with the facade layout also being changed.
