history

In 1928, an airport for airmail was built here, far from the traditional residential areas of the city . The airfield was soon used for military purposes. In 1930 the actual Friedensweiler settlement was built as part of the air base . After the National Socialists came to power , the Aviation Training Regiment No. 21 was stationed here. The barracks were to the north of Berliner Chaussee, while the airfield, hangars and flight control center were to the south and thus outside today's Friedensweiler .

After the end of the Second World War , the airfield was no longer used. A pig fattening system was later built on parts of the runway. In 1947 the city of Magdeburg built apartments for resettlers and members of the former Schäffer and Budenberg company with the approval of the Soviet military administration . During this time the settlement was named Friedensweiler. In 1949, the Magdeburg industrial company MAW converted the barracks into company apartments for 2,500 people. The old casino was converted into the Friedensweiler cultural center, but was later demolished. The former flying school became the Ernst Grube POS and later the Friedensweiler primary school . In 2002, however, the school closed.
