Grupo México (Grupo México SA de CV) is the largest mining group in Mexico and the third largest copper producer in the world. Through its subsidiary Ferrocarril Méxicano (Ferromex), it operates the largest railway network in Mexico. Grupo México is listed in the Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores .

The company was founded in 1978 as "Grupo Industrial Minera Mexico". In 1988 the bankruptcy estate of the state-owned mining company "Mexicana de Cobre" was taken over. In 1990 the most important copper mines in Cananea and Nacozari were acquired. In addition, the company bought other smaller businesses, such as some coal mines in Coahuila . In 1994 the company renamed "Grupo México".

In 2000 the company generated 87.5% of Mexico's copper production. In 2004 Grupo México acquired 54.2% of “Southern Peru Copper Corporation”. In October 2005 the name was changed to Southern Copper Corporation .

In 1997, the company was in charge of the acquisition of the concession for rail operations in northwest and central Mexico ( Ferrocarril Méxicano ). In November 2005, the southern Mexican railway company Ferrosur was acquired.
