Guards Club Island

Guards Club Island , also called Bucks Ait , is an island in the Thames near Maidenhead , Berkshire . The island is connected to the mainland at Guards Club Park by a low cast iron and wood footbridge that prevents passage. The island gets its alternative name from the eel traps connected to a chain, in the place of which the bridge was built in 1865 to allow access to the Guards Club's boathouse, which no longer exists.

The island is part of the Guards Club Park, which is a public green space and conservation area ; access to the island is restricted between December and June as it is a nesting area for ducks .
