Guigues V. (Forez)

Guigues V († 1259 ) was Count of Forez from the House of Albon . He was an elder son of Count Guigues IV of Forez .

He was married to Alix de Chacenay since 1224, but with whom he had no children.

When his father died in 1241 on his way back from a crusade, Guigues V inherited the county of Forez from him. Shortly after taking office, he got into a dispute with his uncle by marriage, Wilhelm von Baffie, about various property rights. The dispute ended in 1244 after a mediation by King Louis IX. of the saint contractually settled. Baffie received several castles in Forez for which he paid homage to Guigues.

Guigues took part in the Sixth Crusade to Egypt under King Louis IX from 1248 . part. On the advance from Damiette to Cairo in 1249, he was wounded in a skirmish against the Saracens when he was knocked from his horse and broke his leg. In the further course of the crusade, like the king, he fell into captivity with the Mamluk . He probably reached his home again in October 1253.

After his death, his brother Rainald followed him .
