List of the Counts of Lyons and Forez
In the county of Lyon and the county of Forez ( Forensis pagus ) ruled:
Count of Lyon
- Girard de Roussillon
- 870: Boso of Vienne
- 885: Bernard Plantevelue
Counts of Lyons and Forez
- [Wilhelm I.], named in 925 as Vuillelmi comes in a document to the Savigny Abbey
- [Wilhelm II.], Named in 944 as Vuilelmi comitis in a document to the Cluny Abbey
The identification of the Wilhelme mentioned in 925 and 944 as Counts of Lyon and Forez can only be assumed on the basis of the present documents, but not with certainty.
- [Artaud I.], alleged brother of Wilhelm II. And died in 960
- [Gerald I.], alleged son of Artaud I. and died in 990
There are no contemporary records of Count Artaud I and Gerald I. Their existence and their supposed dates of death are recorded in the historical works of Samuel Guichenon ( Histoire de la Souverainté de Dombes , 1662) and Auguste Bernard ( Histoire de Forez , 1835), without this being supported by contemporary evidence. Artaud II as the grandfather of Artaud IV is the first count of Lyon and Forez that can be assumed with certainty.
