Suzanne de Bourbon-Beaujeu (born May 10, 1491 , † April 28, 1521 in Châtellerault ) was Duchess of Bourbon and Auvergne , and Countess of Clermont .

Life

Suzanne was the only daughter and heiress of Duke Pierre II. De Bourbon and his wife Anne de Beaujeu , daughter of the French King Louis XI. and his wife Charlotte of Savoy .

After her brother Karl and her father died, Suzanne became one of the richest heiresses in France. Through the clever mediation of her mother, Suzanne married Duke Charles III on May 10, 1505 . de Bourbon-Montpensier , son of Count Gilbert of the House of Bourbon and his wife Clara Gonzaga of Mantua. The marriage had three children:

  • Franz (1517–1518), Duke of Clermont
  • Twin sons (* / † 1519)

After Suzanne's early death, the queen mother Luise of Savoy and her son King Franz I of France claimed the inheritance for themselves. A conflict developed from this, to which the Duchy of Bourbon fell victim.
