Guigues III. (* 1160 ; † November 28, 1204 ) was Count von Forez from the House of Albon .

Life

Guigues was a son of Count Guigues II of Forez . His first wife was Ascuraa (* 1165), from whom he separated. His second wife was Alix von Sully (* 1180; † 1207), daughter of Archambaud IV. Von Sully. Due to the limited sources, it is difficult to clearly determine which of the following children belong to which mother. The years of birth and young age of the second wife suggest that all four children were from the first marriage:

  • Alix or Guigonne (* 1189; † 1214) ⚭ around 1205 with Archambault VIII of Bourbon from the House of Dampierre
  • Eleonore (* 1190) ⚭ 1210 with Wilhelm von Baffie
  • Guigues IV (* 1190; † 1241), Count of Forez
  • Marquise, ⚭ with Guido VI. von Thiern ( House Thiern )

Guigues succeeded his father as a count in 1199 after he had entered a monastery as a monk . At first he found himself in a military conflict with the Lord of Beaujeu . He then joined the Fourth Crusade but did not move to Venice with the main army . Instead, he traveled with a Flemish fleet under Johann von Nesle in the spring of 1203 from Marseille directly to Palestine. Shortly before he wanted to leave for his homeland, he died there in 1204 and was buried in Acre .
