Guillermo Laborde

Guillermo Laborde (born October 24, 1886 in Montevideo , † May 13, 1940 ibid) was a Uruguayan painter, sculptor, draftsman and graphic designer.

Life

He studied at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Montevideo with Carlos María Herrera . From 1912 he studied in Florence, Rome, Paris and Spain.

In 1921 he returned to Montevideo, where from 1923 he was a lecturer at the Escuela Industrial, the Círculo Fomento de Bellas Artes and the Instituto Normales . His students included u. a. Alfredo De Simone , Héctor Sgarbi and Petrona Viera .

His influence on the Uruguayan painting direction of Planismo (Moviemento planista) of the 1920s was significant.

As a graphic designer, Laborde created the official poster for the 1930 World Cup .
