Guiomar Torrezão

Guiomar Delphina de Noronha Torrezão (born November 26, 1844 in Lisbon , † October 22, 1898 ibid) was a Portuguese writer. She is one of the key figures in the emancipation of women from bourgeois ideals in Portugal.

Career

Torrezão was the daughter of José Joaquim de Noronha Torrezão and Maria do Carmo Pinto de Noronha Torrezão. Her parents' home was characterized by middle class. She received French lessons and began to write around this time. At the age of 22 she published her first novel, Uma Alma de Mulher , which had previously been published in the feminist magazine A Voz Feminina . In 1872 a volume of stories was published under the title Rosas Pálidas , and in 1874 the historical novel A Família Albergaria . In addition to novels, her work also includes dramas, poetry, travel books and translations.

Until 1868 she worked for the Almanaque de Lembranças Luso-Brasileiro . In 1871 she founded the Almanach das Senhoras , which she directed until her death in 1898.
