Guitarix is free software for Linux that emulates the behavior and capabilities of a guitar amplifier . In addition to amplifier emulation, Guitarix offers various effects, including a partially parametric graphic equalizer , compressor , distortion , overdrive , echo , chorus , phaser , flanger , reverb and wah-wah . Various tube and loudspeaker emulations can be selected in the amplifier module. Guitarix also integrates the convolver software zita-convolver from Fons Adriaensen. In addition to the sound effects, Guitarix offers a tuner , a detailed, configurable signal strength indicator and a module that can convert the tones played into MIDI notes. The user interface can be remotely controlled from a MIDI controller.

Guitarix calculates internally with the help of the signal processing software Faust developed at Stanford University . In addition to the independent variant, Guitarix also offers a user interface called gx_head, which is optically more closely based on real amplifiers, as well as the amplifier emulation and the effects as individual LADSPA and LV2 plugins.

Guitarix uses the JACK pro audio system .

Guitarix is freely available under the GNU General Public License .
