Gulf Oil was a global oil company founded in 1901 that merged with Chevron in 1984 . The brand name still exists today under various ownership conditions.
history
As the eighth largest American manufacturing company in 1941 and the ninth largest in 1979, Gulf Oil was one of the so-called Seven Sisters and had its headquarters in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . The Gulf Tower is an Art Deco skyscraper in Pittsburgh, which was the tallest building in the city until 1970. Gulf Oil Corporation (GOC) merged with Standard Oil of California (known as SOCAL or Chevron) in 1984.
Gulf Oil was known for its involvement in motorsport in the 1960s and 1970s. Racing cars in the eye-catching light blue and orange Gulf Oil livery have won the Le Mans 24-hour race several times .

In the US , the brand name is exploited by the Framingham- based Gulf Oil LP , a subsidiary of the retailer Cumberland Farms . Outside the United States, the naming rights are in the hands of Gulf Oil International (GOI) and the Indian Hinduja Group . Since the 1990s, many new stations have been opened, especially outside of the USA, and in 1997 the company entered the Dutch market.
Gulf Luxembourg
In 1999, Gulf fuels and oils were also sold in Luxembourg in addition to France and Belgium . Gulf supplies heating oil and diesel nationwide and has added lubricants to its product range. The filling station network is continuously being expanded, so that around one new filling station has been added every year since 2001. Gulf is now part of the largest independent mineral oil company in Luxembourg.
