Gulf Shore Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gulf Shore Railway was a railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It was founded in 1885 and in the following years built an approximately 22 km long branch line that branched off from the Caraquet Railway in Pokemouche Junction and ran parallel to the coast of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence to Tracedie . In Tracedie, there was a connecting line to a factory in Shelia , only a few kilometers long, serving only goods traffic . The Gulf Shore Railway merged on April 13, 1911 with the Caraquet Railway to form the Caraquet and Gulf Shore Railway , which merged with the Canadian National Railways in 1920. While the Tracedie – Shelia line was probably shut down shortly after the nationalization, the remaining line to Tracedie remained in operation until 1989.
