Gungahlin is a municipality in Canberra , the capital of Australia . It is 90.1 km² and includes seven districts with a total of 27,577 inhabitants (2003). Gungahlin is the northernmost district of Canberra and also the youngest. Settlement in the area began in 1993 and has continued. The future growth of the city is to take place mainly here, the construction of twelve additional districts is planned. The name of the district is derived from the Aboriginal word Goongarline , which means "small rocky hill". Ginninderra Creek flows through the area and flows into the Molonglo River .
