Gunter Dimt

Gunter Dimt (born April 24, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian , folklorist and museum director.

Life

Gunter Dimt studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology from 1961 to 1965 , which he did not graduate, and worked as a construction technician in Lower Austria and Linz. From 1968 to 1975 he studied art history at the University of Vienna and wrote his dissertation on farmhouses in Waidhofen an der Ybbs.

In 1975 he joined the scientific service of the Province of Upper Austria and was head of the folklore department of the Upper Austrian State Museum from 1979 to 1991. After Wilfried Seipel left , Dimt was director of the Upper Austrian state museums from 1991 to 2000 . Even after his retirement in 2000, he wrote numerous books, exhibition catalogs and scientific articles.

Dimt is a co-founder of the Eggerhaus in Altmünster and was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the market town of Altmünster.
