Gusha
Guscha ( Rhaeto-Romanic for tree trunk / clearing), formerly also called Mutzen , is a former German-speaking Walser settlement at 1112 m in the area of the originally Rhaeto-Romanic community of Maienfeld .
The settlement belonged to the Walser community of Berg within the city of Maienfeld , together with today's Alp Sturfis , Rofels , Bovel and Vatscherin . The remote, extremely steep location of the village led to strong emigration of the inhabitants in the 20th century. While up to 180 people lived on the Guscha in the 18th century, the last two families left the place in 1969. The village was Swiss Army sold the terrain for training purposes for the Waffenplatz St. Luzisteig wanted to use. The Pro Guscha association has been looking after the remaining buildings since 1974 and runs a mountain restaurant on the Guscha.
