history
While a central water supply with house connections was created in the large cities from the middle of the 19th century, this did not take place in the countryside and in the smaller cities until the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Before that, the water supply was secured by taking it from the streams, own wells or public wells . In the second half of the 19th century, cast iron prevailed as a well material over the wood or stone masonry that had been used until then.
The cast iron running fountain in Daaden is one of these fountains from the second half of the 19th century. He originally stood in front of the tithe barn at Lamprechtstrasse 39/41. From the 1940s to 1973 it then stood in a recess on Hachenburger Strasse above the Roth car dealership. The fountain was badly damaged in a car accident in 1973. The cast iron fountain shaft could be preserved, the fountain basin was reproduced true to the original. The fountain was later placed below the Protestant church and then on Günter-Wolfram-Platz. In 2019 the fountain was moved in front of the local history museum with the approval of the monument protection office. In Daaden there was also a "fountain festival" in honor of the gargoyle in the 1970s.
The octagonal fountain basin is decorated with reliefs of agricultural motifs. Historically, it was painted in different colors, according to the specifications of the monument protection office, it appears today in the original gray.
