Gustav Kucz

Gustav Kucz (* 2. August 1901 in Zory , Silesia ; † 29. September 1963 in Berlin ) was an archivist and interpreters and hymn translators .

Born in Silesia and raised in a musical family, Gustav Kucz settled in Berlin in 1948 . In 1952 he married Christa Ochmann from Katowice . He had already learned Polish in his home country, and after studying medicine for a few semesters, he broke off this training and devoted himself entirely to foreign languages. After all, he spoke eight languages ​​and worked as an archivist and sworn interpreter a. a. at the British diplomatic mission in Berlin. He died in Berlin-Schöneberg .

In 1954, Kucz was commissioned by the Berlin publisher Adolf Strube to translate the song Gdy się Chrystus rodzi, popular in Poland , for the publication of European Christmas carols . With the German text As the world lost , this song was then included in the main part of the German Evangelical Hymn book (No. 53) in 1993 .
