Gustav Platzhoff (* 1821 ; † 1887 ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur .

Life

He was born in 1821 as the son of Friedrich Platzhoff (1791–1859) and Therese Bemberg, a daughter of the founder of the yarn dyeing factory J. P. Bemberg , Johann Peter Wilhelm Bemberg (1758–1838). He attended high school in Elberfeld . Gustav Platzhoff became a partner in the Bembergschen dye works, which his son Friedrich A. Platzhoff relocated from Elberfeld to Oberbarmen in the Öhde in 1865 .

He worked as a city ​​councilor from 1853 to 1861 and as an alderman from 1864 to 1878. He was a sponsor of the Elberfeld Beautification Association , which he co-founded, and its chairman from 1870 to 1881.

In Ottenbruch he built a house (Gut Ottenbruch) , surrounded by a large park. Platzhoff had streets built on the site, for example Sadowastraße , which became the center of the Briller Quarter , and Platzhoffstraße , which was named after him .

In 1910 a memorial was erected in Platzhoffstraße in his honor and because of his services to the Beautification Association .
