from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gustav Schwab (born July 8, 1866 in Amsterdam , † April 16, 1944 in Wiesbaden ) was a stage actor .

Life

Schwab began his stage career in Halle in 1886, then was in Bern in 1888, in Zwickau in 1889, in Frankfurt an der Oder in 1890, in Elberfeld from 1891 to 1893, in 1894 at the Residenztheater Hannover, 1895 at the Residenztheater Wiesbaden, 1897 at the Hoftheater Dresden, 1898 in Barmen , 1899 in Krefeld and from 1900 to at least 1902 again in Wiesbaden. There he proved to be an extremely talented actor in his first role as "Fleming" in the city air.

As a bon vivant and adolescent lover he was probably best, but also character roles, and especially blasé bon vivants he knew how to portray with great success. Schwab was one of the most versatile actors on the Hofbühne, whose elegant appearance, witty detailing, humor and true-to-life character drawings were rightly highlighted and recognized. He was considered one of the best actors of the decadent type. But also his “Duke” in Strangers , “Bolingbroke”, “Bolz” etc. were splendid performances.
