Gustav Sjöberg

Ivar Gustaf Albert Sjöberg (born March 23, 1913 in Stockholm , † October 3, 2003 in Lidingö ) was a Swedish football goalkeeper and coach.

career

Player career

Sjöberg joined the AIK Solna in 1929 . On July 31, 1932 he made his debut in the Allsvenskan . Until 1950 he guarded the team's goal and made 321 first division appearances. In 1937 he was Swedish champion, in 1949 cup winner.

Sjöberg was also a Swedish international . Between 1937 and 1946 he stood in the gate of Blågult 21 times . He participated with the selection at the World Cup in 1938 and after defeats against Hungary (1: 5 in the semifinals) and Brazil (2: 4 in the game for third place) finished fourth in the tournament.

Coaching career

After finishing his active career in 1950, he moved to the coaching bench and initially looked after the second team of AIK Solna. In 1951 he went to IFK Holmsund , which he coached in the second division. After only one season he returned to his hometown club. Until 1963 he was again the coach of the second team and also the club's goalkeeping coach.
