Besson is now a brand for brass instruments from the Buffet-Crampon Group. Until the takeover on January 16, 2006, Besson was part of the international group The Music Group .

Tubas and euphonies are of particular importance , among other things because Besson is one of the few providers of instruments with a compensation system in this area . In the case of euphonies in particular, there are therefore few alternatives to Besson instruments for professional musicians.

The brand name goes back to the French instrument maker Gustave Auguste Besson , who patented the prototype of the modern cornet in Paris in 1837 at the age of 18 . Until then, a cornet à piston was understood to mean a post horn with valves . Since Besson's instrument proved to be far superior to these designs, it quickly became popular across Europe and Besson founded his own manufacture.

In 1857 Besson moved his company to London , where he expanded it further. It subsequently gained significant market share in the UK and exported to numerous other countries including the USA . In 1948, the Besson company joined the Boosey & Hawkes group, whose instrument making subsidiaries were merged into The Music Group in 2003 .

Today, the Besson brand belongs to the French company Buffet Crampon .

Product piracy

For some time now, online auctions and flea markets have been home to many inferior, mostly unplayable replicas of Besson instruments, including saxophones .
