Gustave Servois

Gustave Marie Joseph Servois (born June 7, 1829 in Paris ; † November 9, 1927 there ) was a French archivist, prefect and Romanist .

Life

Servois graduated from the École nationale des chartes in 1854 . He was from 1859 to 1866 employee of the magazine La correspondance littéraire and from 1873 to 1879 prefect in various departments. In 1879 he became library and archive inspector. From 1888 to 1902 he was head of the Archives nationales. In addition, he worked as an editor for Romansh.

Servois was chairman of the Société de l'Histoire de France and the Société des anciens textes français as well as honorary chairman of the Société de l'École des chartes.
