Gustavo Ayares Ossandón is a Chilean diplomat.

Career

Ossandón graduated from the Universidad de Chile with a degree in law and social sciences . He also has a Masters in European Law from Stockholm University ( Sweden ). In 1983 he entered the Academia Diplomática Andrés Bello and graduated the following year.

In 1986 Ossandón became the third secretary of the Chilean embassy in Syria . In 1989 he received the same post at the Chilean embassy in Australia , further posts at the Chilean embassies in Sweden and Italy followed. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was Head of Mercosur Department , Head of Directorate for South America, Head of the Cabinet of the Director General for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Director for Ceremonies and Protocol, Director of Human Resources (2008-2009) and Director General of Administration.

From 2009 to 2014 Ossandón was Chilean ambassador to Colombia and from 2017 to 2018 Chilean ambassador to Japan . On November 16, 2018, he was appointed Chilean Ambassador to Indonesia . On February 21, 2020, Ossandón also handed over his accreditation for East Timor to President Francisco Guterres .

Awards

In 2014 Ossandón received the Colombian Grand Cross of the Order of San Carlos .
