Gustavo Javier Canales Bustos (born March 30, 1982 in General Roca ) is a Chilean football player of Argentine origin.

The striker began his career in Argentina with Deportivo Roca and Club Cipolletti . In 2005 he played with Club Atlético Aldosivi in Nacional B and in 2006 with Guillermo Brown. The next year he moved to Chile to the Primera División club Deportes La Serena . After a stopover at the Colombian first division club Once Caldas , he returned to La Serena and was under contract with Unión Española from 2009 . In the first half of 2010 he was loaned to the Argentine club River Plate . He then played again at Española and from 2011 at CF Universidad de Chile , with which he won the Chilean Championships of the Year ( Apertura and Clausura ) and the Copa Sudamericana 2011 .

After this successful year he moved to Dalian Aerbin in China and after six months to Arsenal de Sarandí in Argentina. There he was tested positive in a doping control in December and banned for three months. From 2013 Canales was back at Unión Española, with whom he won the Chilean Championship Clausura 2013. At the 2014 Copa Libertadores , Española reached the round of 16 and Canales was the tournament's third top scorer with four goals. In summer 2014 he went to Universidad de Chile again.

Canales was appointed to the Chilean national team once in 2011 .
