The Gutenberg scholarship of the city of Mainz is a scholarship for students or former students of the state universities of Mainz who are doing a scientific or artistic work related to the city of Mainz. It was brought into being in 1946 by the Mainz city council with funding of 50,000 DM.

The scholarship, which is advertised for the winter semester , is awarded by the Gutenberg Society to the scholarship holders during the Mainz Midsummer Night. The respective Lord Mayor of Mainz chairs the Board of Trustees . In 2010 a total of 10,000 euros was awarded to ten scholarship holders from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Mainz University of Applied Sciences . In the tender for 2012, 8,000 euros are earmarked.
