Guy Nsangué Akwa

Guy Nsangué Akwa (* in Douala , Cameroon ) is a jazz bassist from Cameroon.

life and work

Akwa grew up in Cameroon, where he first learned to play the guitar, but then turned to playing the bass. He founded his first group with Richard Bona and Étienne M'Bappé , who played both African music and jazz.

In the 1980s Akwa went to Paris, where he worked with various African stars such as Papa Wemba , Mory Kanté , Oumou Sangaré and the Zouk band Kassav from the French Antilles.

Akwa has been working with Jean-Luc Ponty since 1991 , first on the album Tchokola , then accompanied him on his tours and on other recordings, such as The Atacama Experience (2007).
