St. Pius is a Catholic church in Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the district of Gütersloh , North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the deanery Rietberg-Wiedenbrück in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
It is the younger of the two parish churches in the Wiedenbrück district. After the Second World War, the Catholic St Giles church grew in Wiedenbrück due to the influx of displaced persons so that in addition to the St. Giles Church to build a second church was needed. The new church was built in 1955 according to the plans of the diocesan councilor Alfons Boklage from Münster. The church patron is Pope Pius X , who was canonized in 1954.
The church was built as a modern form of a basilica . The interior was designed in such a way that it offers a clear view of the elevated choir with the altar .
An approximately six-meter-high rose window made of Anröchter dolomite is embedded above the entrance area with three portals . The interior, which is quite unadorned for a Catholic church, gets its light from the relatively small windows below the roof crown. Some of them are equipped with brightly colored glazing.
The detached church tower , which like the rest of the church building is made of Dutch clinker, is 38 m high.
The parish has been part of the Reckenberg Pastoral Association in the Archdiocese of Paderborn since 2003 .
