Guyyoo Gobbaa

Guyyoo Gobbaa (* 1973 in southern Ethiopia) was the 70th king of the Borana in Ethiopia . Following the Oromo tradition, he was elected for an eight-year term in 2009 and was replaced by Kura Jarso in 2017.

Life

Guyyoo Gobbaa is a cattle breeder and comes from a remote region in the south of his country. In 2009 he became the King of approximately one million people in the mostly nomadic living Borana .

politics

He described the problems of his people to a representative of the BBC as the conflicts with the neighboring Somali over scarce water and land. According to him, Somali tried to rob land from the Borana. He wants to prevent this ( "Of course if someone tries to snatch my things, I have to stop him" ). He wants to maintain the nomadic way of life of his people and hopes for more support from the Ethiopian government.
