Gyllenhaal (noble family)
Gyllenhaal is a Swedish noble family from the district of Älvsborgs län (now Västra Götalands län ). The name comes from a peasant tenant (Swedish: "Kronobonde") named Gunne Olsson from the small hamlet of Härene . He was also called Gunne Haal . His son, the cavalry lieutenant Nils Haal (died 1680/1681), was ennobled in 1652 under the name Gyllenhaal. In 1672 the family was registered at the Swedish knight house . In 1866 the grandson of the researcher Leonard Gyllenhaal , Anders Leonard Gyllenhaal, emigrated to the USA and started a family there. The motive for his emigration should not, as with many of his compatriots, have been based on poverty and hunger. Some of Anders Gyllenhaal's descendants became known in American films .
