Gyula Szőkefalvi-Nagy

Gyula Szőkefalvi-Nagy (born April 11, 1887 in Elisabethstadt , Transylvania , † October 14, 1953 in Szeged ) was a Hungarian mathematician who dealt with analysis and algebraic geometry .

Szőkefalvi-Nagy in 1909 at the Franz-Josef University in Cluj-Napoca (now Cluj-Napoca) PhD (About arithmetic properties of algebraic curves). He then taught in Priwitz and Szeklerburg . In 1911/12 he continued his studies at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and completed his habilitation in 1915 in Klausenburg. From 1921 until his death he was a professor at the University of Szeged, interrupted from 1940 to 1945 when he taught again in Cluj-Napoca. He held the chair for geometry in Szeged.

In 1946 he became a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . In 1947 he became honorary president when the Bolyai János Matematikai Társulat was founded .

He is the father of Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy .
