Hemoglobinemia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hemoglobinemia is a free occurrence of the red pigment hemoglobin in the blood . It is caused by a severe, acute breakdown of red blood cells . The hemoglobin released from the red blood cells is bound to haptoglobin up to an amount of 135 mg / dl . These hemoglobin-haptoglobin complexes are broken down by macrophages . When there is an increased amount of hemoglobin, free hemoglobin remains in the blood. This is filtered through the kidney corpuscles into the primary urine and recovered to a certain extent in the kidney tubules . If the amount of hemoglobin exceeds these recovery mechanisms, hemoglobin is excreted in the urine ( hemoglobinuria ).
