Hanging room
Hanging room is a term from timber frame construction for components that are suspended in half-timbered houses as a mezzanine floor, mostly used for residential purposes. The construction method (without hanging) is also adopted as a mezzanine in medieval to baroque urban stone houses.
description
In the half-timbered houses of the Rhenish city, hanging rooms with half the storey height are often built into the high, representative business space on the ground floor. Examples of this are the originally preserved Windeck House in Münstereifel with two hanging rooms and the rebuilt Bachem House on the Great Greek Market, home of the Cologne House of Literature since 2014 . There the hanging rooms are only on the non-attached side. Additional light falls indirectly into the interior through the interior windows of the hanging rooms.
