Hédy Schneider

Hédy Schneider (born September 21, 1920 in Budapest , † July 8, 1992 in Maastricht ) was a Hungarian pianist.

Life

Hédy Schneider was the daughter of master printer Jenõ Schneider and his wife Anna Braun. At the age of six, she received piano lessons from Margit Bálint on the initiative of her mother, who soon recognized her student's great talent. She studied piano at the Franz Liszt Music Academy with Lajos Hernádi and Leó Weiner . After the war she worked as a répétiteur . By winning a piano competition in Paris , she became known to a wider public. In the 1950s she gave numerous concerts, piano recitals and was regularly on the program of the Hungarian radio . She also took part in performances of contemporary chamber music works such as the Sonata for Flute and Piano by Gyula Dávid . In 1954 she recorded rhapsodies by Franz Liszt for the Hungaroton record company . In 1957 she moved to the Netherlands with her husband, the violinist Tibor Berkovits , where she taught at the Maastricht Conservatory.

The Music Magazine / Musical Courier reviewed a concert by Hédy Schneider at a music festival in 1947 as follows: “Hédy Schneider was a talented young woman with an untouched, warm naturalness. This was evident in Mendelssohn's Variations sérieuses in F, in Schumann's Fantasia and in shorter pieces. "

Appreciation

In 1946, Hédy Schneider won first prize at the International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition . In 1953 she received the Franz Liszt Prize ( Liszt Ferenc-díj ) and also the Gold Medal of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
