A Hîz oğlanı or hîz for short was a man in the Ottoman Empire who worked as a homosexual sex worker; later the name hamam oğlanı (boy from the hammam) became popular. Oğlancılık was often used for pederasty in general .

The plural of the Persian word hîz , which denoted a homosexual man, was formed in the Persian way and was hîzan , which is also the name given to all men who pursued this profession. Since part of the Hîz oğlanları carried out their profession in Turkish baths (Hamâm) , the term hamam oğlanı , which from its word meaning refers to the tellak who works as a bath attendant in a hamam , took on this meaning and is used that way up to the present day. Which were first mentioned in the hammam operating Hiz oğlanları in manuscript Dellaknâme-i Dilgüşâ 17th century. In this work (“Book of the Hearts Opening Tellaks”) by the Supreme Bath Master (hamamcılar kethüdası) Derviş İsmail , who is responsible for the maintenance of the hammams, only eleven of the 2,321 tellaks in the 408 hammams of Constantinople are named and with their names sexual services and the wages to be paid for them. Like the word ibne (“fagot”) in today's modern Turkish language , the word Hîz oğlanı was used in Ottoman as a homophobic swear word to humiliate other people.
