Higher vocational school for business informatics
The Higher Vocational School for Business Informatics ( HBFS-WI ) is a state educational institution that offers practice-oriented full-time training in computer science and economics . Course of training
Sections and Duration
The training course is divided into a one-year lower level and a subsequent one-year upper level. In between, half before and half during the summer vacation, the students complete an eight-week business information technology internship. The courses run in the normal course of the course, i. H. with approx. 32 hours per week full-time. The change from lower level to upper level takes place automatically, i. H. there is no promotion based on a specific grade profile. At the end of the upper level, an independent project work must be created (analogous to a Bachelor thesis). This is assessed and entered in the final certificate with title and grade.
Content
The training focuses on business information technology content and business science content.
Lower level
Currently (2018) the HBFS-WI is teaching the topic block programming with the programming language C # (console applications, XAML ) in the development environment .NET framework as well as theoretical programming methodology and algorithm theory in the lower level . The topic of system integration covers Windows 7 Professional, Windows Server 2012 , Linux and hardware technology. In the topic of software development and databases, modeling tools such as ARIS Toolset and project planning tools such as Microsoft Project are presented. The conception and application of a relational database is taught under Microsoft Access , whereby the database query language SQL is also used. In the software application subject, the handling of application software such as the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the Microsoft Word word processor is trained. In addition, the students practice communicating complex topics independently using the PowerPoint presentation software, whereby the basics of communication and rhetoric are also part of the training. Web design HTML and CSS are further subject areas in the software application area.
Upper school
In the upper level, a distinction is made between the main areas of application programming and system integration. In application programming, the focus is on programming methodology, database technology, software development and the C # programming language . Furthermore, additional voluntary courses are offered for this focus (JAVA course, ANDROID course, IBM-i-Series certificate, SAP course). In the area of system integration, the focus is on heterogeneous networks under and system administration of Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 and Linux, the technical programming focus is application programming with VBA based on the database Access. Both training courses deal with network technology, programming of automated websites under PHP and in the area of software application with ready-made accounting and business administration software. Further adjustments are currently planned: Java script and use of a cloud database (planned: Azure).
The subject block economics deals in both levels with accounting, bookkeeping, cost and performance accounting, controlling, business administration, economics, law and business mathematics.

There are no school fees. BAFÖG funding is possible.
opportunities
With appropriate performance, the graduates have good to very good job prospects. Employment is also possible with established software houses. In many cases, the same position and therefore the same starting salary is paid as for a Bachelor graduate.
Location
The only Saarland location of HBFS-WI is the Commercial Vocational Training Center Halberg of the Saarbrücken Regional Association .
