As Horns of Hattin or horns of Hattin (Arabic Hattin ) to the west indicates a low hill a few kilometers of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel . It got the name because of its double summit, a remnant of the few recognizable volcanoes west of the Jordan.
The remains of an ancient synagogue lie in the volcanic hollow.
The horns of Hittim are best known for a decisive battle in the time of the Crusaders : After the Battle of Hattin , the Crusaders lost large parts of the Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1187, including Jerusalem itself.
Only a narrow strip of coast with Acre as the new capital could be recaptured in the Third Crusade .
