HP Devitte (1908)

HP Devitte was a Swiss football referee of English origin. Born in England, he lived in Geneva when he whistled the German national soccer team's first international match against Switzerland in 1908 . During the game, Devitte wore a blue suit and hat, so a player asked him to leave the field. In addition to this he led at least four other international matches: on May 20, 1909 Switzerland – England (amateurs), on April 3, 1910 Germany – Switzerland, on January 8, 1911 Switzerland – Hungary and on May 5, 1912 Germany – Switzerland.
