The handball club eV in the Turn- und Rasensportverein Bergkamen ( HC TuRa Bergkamen for short ) is the most successful handball club in the city of Bergkamen in the Ruhr area. Currently the first men's team plays in the Oberliga Westfalen , the second team in the Landesliga Hellweg and the third senior team plays in the 1. Kreisliga Hellweg. The women's team plays in the big leagues. Twelve youth teams are currently participating in the game.

history

The handball club HC TuRa Bergkamen has a 60-year-old tradition. His teams have long been successful in field handball. In 1975 the men's team rose to the regional indoor handball league, which was then the second highest division in Germany. The greatest sporting success was the promotion to the top German league in 1983. In that same year, the coaching position was none other than Vlado Stenzel , who had recently won the world championship with Germany. Lured by this, some national and international players played for the "Red-Whites". However, the decline began in the mid-1980s, which ended in the district class in 1989. In the 1996/97 season, the club knocked again at the German handball club, but missed qualifying for the 2nd Bundesliga by only 3 points. Another slump followed, and the first team had to take the bitter path to the association league. After long years in the 5th division, they made it to the top division in 2004/05. In the meantime they are firmly established in this league and most recently occupied a midfield position.

Hall

All of the club's teams play their home games in the Halle am Friedrichsberg. In addition to the playing field, this modern sports hall offers space for around 1200 spectators, a kiosk, a weight room, another “small” gymnastics hall and much more.
