HDL is the call sign of an undirected radio beacon (NDB) at the helicopter landing pad Heidelberg- Pfaffengrund of the US Air Force south of Plankstadt .

The HDL radio beacon transmitted on the frequency 417 kHz and used a T-antenna as a transmitting antenna , which was stretched to two wooden masts. This radio beacon was therefore one of the few broadcasting facilities in Germany with wooden antenna supports.

In June 2013 the wooden masts were replaced by iron masts, but no transmission cable was stretched. The transmitter has not been in operation since June 2013; in late 2013, the existing technology and the voting house were removed. The shutdown of the NDB is connected with the withdrawal of US troops from Heidelberg and the closure of the HD landing site.
