The HK / KŽ series JT38CW-DC is a six-axle freight locomotive for the Kosovar railways . It was created by converting a locomotive from the former JŽ series 661 ( EMD G16 , Kennedy , formerly 661 203).

history

The Kosovar railways needed a modern locomotive for their goods traffic on the route to Skopje in Macedonia , the only international route currently in operation for which goods traffic is of great importance. In order to avoid an expensive new building, it was decided to convert an existing General Motors EMD G16 locomotive, which was fundamentally modernized by the Croatian rail vehicle manufacturer TZV Gredelj in Zagreb (founded in 1894 by the Hungarian State Railways).

Only the braking system, the bogies and the traction motor remain from the original locomotive . The rest, including the complete vehicle body, was replaced. The conversion locomotive is approved for 120 km / h and can be driven in multiple units. So far, a locomotive has been rebuilt, which is set as 2 061 501 and is currently used primarily for freight trains. The vehicle was exhibited by GREDELJ at InnoTrans 2010 on the open-air site.
