Trainkos is the railway company in Kosovo . It was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Fushë Kosova .

history

In September 2011, the Kosovar Railways ( Albanian  Hekurudhat e Kosovës , Serbian Kosovske Železnice ) were divided into two companies: rail transport and vehicles were transferred to Trainkos . Infrakos was established as a railway infrastructure company and took over the railway infrastructure .

Current operation

Passenger traffic between Pristina and Peja was stopped on August 3, 2017 after the state stopped payments to the railways in June and the company's own resources had been used up. As the only remaining passenger train in Kosovo, the international InterCity (IC 891/892) runs from Pristina via Fushë Kosova to Skopje and back.

International freight traffic is also handled via Han i Elezit; the container terminal is located near Pristina Airport at Mirad train station . National freight transport serves several companies scattered across the country, for example:

  • Coal transport Obiliq - NewCoFerronikeli plant in Drenas . The transfer from the coal mine in Obiliq takes place with a factory locomotive, usually every two days.
  • Alumina transports from the Golesh mine (southwest of Pristina airport near Magura ) to the NewCoFerronikeli plant in Drenas. Mostly every day.
  • Various goods (containers, cisterns, general cargo) between Han i Elezit (from / to North Macedonia) and Mirad with service of sidings on the way.

vehicles

The vehicles come from stocks of the former Yugoslav Railways JŽ as well as imports from various European countries.

Locomotives

The locomotives include former Yugoslavian diesel locomotives of the 645 series from Đuro Đaković and 661 from General Motors , as well as Nydqvist och Holm locomotives imported from Norway and a diesel-hydraulic locomotive from the Vossloh G 1700-2 BB series . At InnoTrans 2010, a General Motors JT 38 CW-DC modernized by the Croatian locomotive manufacturer Gredelj was presented.

Until 2012, the locomotives were only given serial numbers, since then Trainkos has been using a designation system based on the UIC identification of the locomotives . Since Kosovo does not yet have a UIC country code , the spaces provided for this in the vehicle number are padded with zeros.

Railcar

All traffic between Fushë Kosova and Peć was handled with former SJ class Y1 railcars built by Fiat . Occasionally, Y1s were also used on the route to Han i Elezit. There are also former FS multiple units of the ALn 668 series built by Fiat, but they have been parked in Fushë Kosova for some time.
