Han i Elezit ( Albanian  also  Hani i Elezit , Serbian Елез Хан Elez Han ) is a city in Kosovo , which is the official seat of the municipality of the same name . Until 2005, this community formed part of the neighboring community Kaçanik .

Surname

By the autumn of 2012 the city Ђенерал Јанковић / Serbian name was Đeneral Janković , named after the Serbian General Božidar Janković , the Serbian troops in the Balkan wars and the First World War led. On the 100th anniversary of the Dremjak massacre, which was perpetrated by Janković's soldiers, the municipality decided to replace the Serbian name with the name Elez Han .

Han i Elezit is located in the southeast of Kosovo. The area of ​​the municipality is 82.9 square kilometers. In the north the municipality borders on Kaçanik and in the south it borders directly on the area of ​​the north Macedonian capital Skopje . There are four mosques and two Catholic churches in the community .

In the town of Han i Elezit, 2533 people were recorded in the 2011 census, all but one person (99.96%) described themselves as Albanians .

In Han i Elezit there is an important road and rail border crossing to North Macedonia. The rail border crossing is currently the most important for Kosovar rail traffic .

The last section of the Autostrada R 6 leading from Doganaj to the border in Han i Elezit was opened on May 29, 2019.
