HMS Endymion
Four warships of the British Navy were named HMS Endymion after Endymion , a figure in Greek mythology
- The first HMS Endymion was a 44-gun frigate that was launched in 1779, took part in the Battle of Les Saintes in 1782 , and sank in 1790 by colliding with the coral reef now known as Endymion Rock south of the Turks Islands .
- The second HMS Endymion was a 40-gun frigate that was used during the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812 with the United States. In the latter, she played a crucial role in the capture of the US frigate USS President in 1815 .
- The third HMS Endymion was a frigate launched in 1865 and scrapped after 1885.
- The fourth HMS Endymion was a cruiser of the Edgar class which in 1891 was launched and was scrapped 1,921th
