HMS Essex
Five ships of the British Navy were named HMS Essex , after the British county of Essex .
- The first HMS Essex (1653) was a ship of the line with 60 cannons, launched in 1653 and captured by the Dutch in the four-day battle in 1666 .
- The second HMS Essex (1679) was a third class ship of the line with 70 guns, built in 1679 and renewed in 1700 and lost in 1759 during the naval battle in Quiberon Bay due to stranding.
- The third HMS Essex (1760) was a third class ship of the line with 64 guns, launched in 1760 and sold in 1799.
- The fourth HMS Essex was the American frigate USS Essex (1799) , which after its conquest in the Royal Navy in 1814 was sold for scrapping in 1837.
- The fifth HMS Essex (1901) was an armored cruiser launched in 1901 and sold for scrapping in 1921.
