HMS Hardy
So far, nine ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Hardy , mostly named after Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy , who was in command of Trafalgar Nelson's flagship HMS Victory :
- The first HMS Hardy was a 12-gun ship launched in 1797 and sold in 1802.
- The second HMS Hardy , a 12-gun brig launched in 1804, was used as a supply ship from 1818 and as a hospital ship from 1821 before being sold in 1835.
- The third HMS Hardy was a mortar ship that entered service in 1855, renamed MV 12 that same year and retired in 1858.
- The fourth HMS Hardy , a screw gunboat of the Albacore class , entered service in 1856 and sold in 1869.
- The fifth HMS Hardy was an A-class destroyer launched in 1895 and sold for scrapping in 1911.
- The sixth HMS Hardy was a K-class destroyer built in 1912, used in World War I and sold in 1921.
- The seventh HMS Hardy was the flotilla leader of the H-class destroyers , which was launched in 1936 and sunk by German destroyers on April 10, 1940 in the First Naval Battle near Narvik .
- The eighth HMS Hardy was a V-class destroyer . Launched in 1943, it was torpedoed by U 278 on January 30, 1944 on convoy JW 56B .
- The ninth HMS Hardy was a Blackwood class anti- submarine frigate from 1955. From 1971 the ship was only used as a Hulk and sunk in 1983 as a target ship.
