The HNA Summer Open Air Concert is an open air concert that has been held annually since 2008. The concert will be by the newspaper Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine (HNA) and the Kassel State Orchestra of the State Theater of Kassel in Kassel Karlsaue before Orangerie aligned. In 2013 the concert had 30,000 visitors with free admission and is considered the second largest classical music event in Germany after the Nuremberg Classic Open Air . The concert starts at 8 p.m. and ends with a large fireworks display. Many visitors arrive in the afternoon and combine the concert with an extended picnic .
history
The HNA open air summer concert was an idea of the former general music director Patrik Ringborg of the Kassel State Theater , who brought this idea back from his hometown Stockholm . The first concert in this series took place in 2008 with around 15,000 visitors. Due to the use of the Karlsaue by dOCUMENTA (13) , there was no open-air concert in 2012. The concert planned for June 19, 2014 was canceled in June because the Karlsaue was soaked through the rainy weather and could not withstand the strain. The 2015 concert was also canceled, this time due to the search for dud bombs from the Second World War. After a two-year break, the open-air concert took place again on July 16, 2016 with a new visitor record of 33,000. For the first time, donations were called to support the concert and more than 15,000 euros were ultimately raised. In 2017 the concert paused again because of documenta 14 because the Karlsaue was part of the exhibition grounds.
