HP Client Automation software is a tool for software distribution from Hewlett-Packard with automated routines, such as operating system distribution and updates, patch deployment Management, application software, monitoring of application usage and remote system management.
HP Client Automation is available in two different versions, which cover the needs of customers with different sized and complex IT environments. HP Client Automation Enterprise delivers the true target state of policy-based device management for well over 10,000 devices. HP Client Automation Standard provides task-based PC management with out-of-the-box functionality for up to 10,000 end devices. Both versions of this software distribution process are sold as products as part of the HP Software & Solutions Business Service Automation Suite.

HP Client Automation Standard
HP Client Automation Standard was created to be easy to use and quick to distribute software. It is intended for customers who have to manage up to 10,000 desktops, laptops and thin clients. The feature list contains the search and inventory of managed devices; Software distribution; automated and continuous patch management; Operating system distribution and migration, paired with backup and restore options for personalized data; Acquisition and distribution of HP Softpaq systems, administration of thin clients and out-of-band management (OOBM).
HP Client Automation Enterprise
HP Client Automation Enterprise can manage well over 10,000 device types. The enterprise variant can serve Microsoft Windows , Mac OS X and Linux desktops and laptops, HP thin clients as well as Windows and Linux servers.
The HP Client Automation Enterprise Edition uses a target state model in which it is defined in advance how the end device is to be equipped with software. The whole thing is controlled by a series of guidelines, while the agent installed on the client proactively synchronizes and manages the defined status. This model is given much more attention because it significantly reduces the amount of work involved in managing an IT environment. This is particularly effective with laptops as infrequent and poor broadband connections limit the effectiveness of the task-based model.
