The HTL Kapfenberg is as a higher technical institute a vocational higher school in the city of Kapfenberg in Styria .

history

The history of HTL Kapfenberg goes back to the 19th century, when the technical school for the wood industry was founded in the neighboring town of Bruck an der Mur in 1881 . Shortly after the closure of the wood school, a kuk technical school for locksmithing was established in the school year 1909/10. Her focus was on blacksmithing , from which the Federal College for Building, Art and Machine Locksmithing developed.

The HTL Kapfenberg as a technical middle school has existed since the school year 1963/64 and emerged from this same federal technical school for building, art and machine fitter in Bruck an der Mur . When it was founded, the school in the Upper Styrian industrial region comprised the departments for electrical engineering and mechanical engineering as well as a technical school. The premises were initially in the elementary school town and a branch in Redfeld, until it moved to its current location. In 1992 the HTL Kapfenberg was expanded to include plastics technology.

The school is attended by about 900 day and 300 evening students. It employs around 80 teachers in theory and 35 in the workshop.

Duration of training, authorizations, titles

The training at the higher departments for electrical engineering (special training: industrial electronics and energy technology, information technology ), mechatronics , mechanical engineering and plastics and environmental technology or aviation technology takes five years and ends with the maturity and diploma examination. With this, the graduate acquires a number of trade licenses and the opportunity to start working immediately. The school-leaving certificate and diploma certificate also entitle you to study at universities of applied sciences (taking relevant previous knowledge into account) and universities .

Thanks to their extensive theoretical and practical training, the graduates of the higher technical institutes are suitable for immediate employment as middle and senior managers .

After three years of relevant professional experience, they will be awarded the status of engineer (engineer) upon application .

The training at the technical schools for electrical engineering and mechanical engineering production technology and from 2019/20 mechatronics lasts three and a half years and ends with a final examination that replaces the journeyman's certificate and entails a large number of commercial authorizations. With an additional advanced course, it is also possible to take the Matura at a technical college or to attend a technical college .

The training at the evening school for electrical engineering , mechanical engineering and industrial engineering lasts four years and ends with the maturity and diploma examination. The graduates have the same authorizations as the graduates of the day schools of the higher departments. The special thing about this form of training is the distance learning component, i. H. an attendance of only four evenings a week is necessary.
