The HTL Steyr is a higher technical federal school in the city of Steyr in Upper Austria . With over 1050 students and more than 130 teachers, it is one of the largest schools in the region.
history
The school was opened on February 8, 1874 as a technical school for the iron industry in the former Jesuit monastery on Michaelerplatz and the current building of the Bundesrealgymnasium Steyr. The technical school was followed by a research institute and a training workshop, which were combined to form the United Technical School and Research Institute. This was followed by the names of the Federal College for Iron and Steel Processing, State Technical School, Engineering School, Technical and Commercial Federal College, Federal Trade School until it became a higher technical school with the new School Organization Act in 1963 .
On September 23, 1883 the new school building was opened in the Schwimmschulstrasse, which is used today by the BAKIP Steyr.
